(TRE) Trauma/Tension Releasing Exercises
"A revolutionary new technique to release deep chronic tension and restore an inner sense of peace."
- David Bercelli
The TRE Process presents a way in which we can take into our own hands our recovery from stress, anxiety, and trauma. It reminds us of our body's natural ability to heal itself, and it gives us a tangible means to bring this natural ability back into the immediate memory of our body, as well as bring an acceptance of it to our mind.
The psoas muscles are considered to be the “fight or flight” response muscles in humans. During a traumatic event, they contract. To heal from physical trauma reactions, they must let go and return to their relaxed state. During the time of an incident, the body becomes overcharged by high levels of tension and chemicals. It has been shown, in both humans and other animals, that to release this charge, the body's natural reaction is to shake – in order to return to a state of rest and relaxation. David suggests that as a society, we no longer find it acceptable to demonstrate signs of fear, so we have inhibited or deadened the capacity to release by shaking. The ego places the body and mind into conflict: the body wants to shake, but the mind won't let it do so. So the body has to find a way to deal with the hyper-aroused charge. The contracted muscles hold onto the charge to be released at a later time, thus producing a chronic state of tension within the body.
David has created a safe, self-applied technique for trauma recovery that is easy to use for large populations, without the need for a therapist. This opens up the possibility of healing from trauma to EVERYONE – no matter what their socioeconomic background, ethnicity, location, present financial status.... everyone.
